Instant golden tea recipe 1

We were in Pretoria visiting family when my husband got a cold, and I didn’t have any of my usual home remedies on hand! When a sore throat or a runny nose threatens, I have some go-to immune boosters. I usually reach for a dose of pickled ginger (I use this recipe from the Healthy Home Economist). After that and make myself a nice warm cup of golden milk, with root ginger, cardamon pods, and a vanilla pod (get the recipe here from Faithful to Nature). I didn’t have access to these, but I wasn’t about to succumb to a viral rhinitis, so I made a plan.

While whole spices may not always be accessible on short notice everywhere you stay, powdered varieties are often easy to come by. I found all the ingredients I needed in my mother’s spice rack. Use this recipe to mix up a batch of spice to keep in a jar for when you need a dose of cold-prevention but don’t have time to watch a pot of simmering coconut milk!
